Employee Spotlight is a blog series that takes a look at the hard-working people who drive success for our partners. Belo + Company has some of the most skilled, knowledgable, and fun people in digital marketing and we are excited to shine a light on them.
A lot of the work here at Belo + Co is done behind the scenes by expert operators, tacticians and digital strategists. We recently sat down with one of our Sales Analysts, Michael Fraler, to learn more about his areas of specialization and how he is already delivering results for our clients.
How long have you worked for B+C and what brought you here?
I have been at B+C since February 2018. I was looking for a new opportunity while working as a contractor for most of 2017. This seemed like a good fit when I came across it, and it’s been great so far.
Tell us about your new position.
I review our channel revenue data and build custom performance reports, quarterly business reviews, etc. Channel Sales Analyst is a new position here at B+C, so, in some ways, I’ve been able to make it my own. It’s evolving constantly, but I am enjoying it.
What tools do you use in your job that you couldn’t live without?
I am in Microsoft Excel all day, every day. I also use my own portable external monitor every day for work. I bought it a couple of years ago, and having three screens has been really helpful in dealing with large amounts of data. It’s pretty much always with me, whether I’m working at the office or from home.
What do you enjoy most about working at B+C?
Like companies I’ve been fortunate to work for in the past, B+C has a great culture and a collaborative environment.
Tell us about any personal hobbies or side gigs.
I am a lifelong fan of basketball, NBA history and the Dallas Mavericks. About 18 months ago I started a podcast called “Forgotten Maverick,” interviewing Dallas Mavericks players from the past. It mainly focuses on players most casual fans don’t remember, but I’ve been fortunate enough to have a few notable guests on the show as well (Josh Howard is by far the most well-known player I have recorded an episode with).
The show is a lot of fun and has attracted a small but loyal following. It’s been mentioned on an episode of ESPN’s “First Take,” featured in an article in The Athletic and streamed in countries all over the world. A former Maverick even produced the musical intro for me.
You can listen to it on Apple Podcasts or Google Play, and previous episodes can also be found on www.dallassportsfanatic.com, a Dallas sports media site. I try to post one or two new episodes a month. It’s been a fun experience and I’m excited to see what else is in store. If you ever want to talk Mavs or Mavs history, come by my desk!
If you were a drink, what kind of drink would you be?
I’m not much of a drinker these days, but I do enjoy an occasional Shiner Bock. I’ve also become a fan of Topo Chico in the past year.
What do you love most about living in DFW?
I was born and raised in Dallas. I went to college in St. Louis and spent four and a half years living in Chicago after that, but Dallas has always been home to me. I always had plans to come back and finally did in 2014. My favorite part is that most of my family and some lifelong friends are all here. My wife was born and raised here, too. Last year we bought a house in Richardson and are very happy there. We were excited to welcome another Dallasite to the family when our son, Sean, arrived in January.
